In 2021, Dr. McGregor was named as a member of the Order of Canada. In 2022 the University of Guelph named Betsy its Alumni of Honour. In 2023, Betsy will be joining the McMaster University Dean of Science External Science Advisory Council. In 1998, Betsy was recognized with the Head of Public Service Award in Canada. At McMaster University, she was awarded the Gold Ring for combined advocacy and academics. The Royal Bank of Canada invited Betsy to be a "Woman Achieving Excellence" speaker for their lecture series for young girls. Recently, The Red Pashmina Campaign named Betsy as a "Woman of Influence" recognizing her role in mentoring the next generation of women leaders. She has served on women's leadership Boards including the Women in Livestock Development (WiLD) of Heifer International, the APEC Women Leaders Network, and the Women's Leadership Board at the Kennedy School at Harvard.

For the UN, the Commonwealth and APEC, Betsy has written manuals and discussion papers on the theme of women in science, technology and the trades. The NGO she founded, the World Women’s Veterinary Association, published five Guidebooks ranging from ‘Women’s Indigenous Knowledge Systems”, “Gender and Microenterprise”, “Women in Science, Technology and the Trades” and “Women and the Environment”. With Dr. Sandra Harding, Betsy co-authored the first chapter addressing gender for UNESCO’s World Science Report  For the Commonwealth Secretariat, Betsy authored a Manual for Mainstreaming Gender in Ministries of Science and Technology.
